Brown birthmarks are made up of brown pigment (melanin). Red ( vascular) birthmarks are made up of lots of tiny blood vessels. After treatment the skin is generally blotchy and some areas of blistering or swelling may be noted. The procedure does not cause bruising, so treatment is easy to conceal.
